In short
Folio works offline and without an account. Your books stay on your phone and are never uploaded to our servers. Folio shows no ads and uses no advertising trackers.
Finding titles and covers
When you look up a book or ask Folio to sort your library, the app sends our server the file name, the search text or the ISBN. The server queries public catalogues (Google Books, Open Library, AniList, MangaDex) and, to guess a title, an artificial intelligence service (Anthropic, then other providers as fallbacks). The resulting records are kept in a shared catalogue to speed up later searches; they are not linked to your identity.
Feedback on records
When you accept, edit or reject a suggestion, the app sends your choice with a random identifier specific to your install. Your IP address is not stored: only an irreversible fingerprint is, to stop one person from voting many times.
Account (optional)
If you create an account, we keep your name, email address, encrypted password and, if you use Google, your Google identifier. They are only used to sign you in and to email you about your account (address verification, forgotten password).
Updates
On launch, the app asks the server whether a new version exists, sending its version number. We count downloads without linking them to anyone.
Hosting and retention
Data is hosted on a private server, backed up every night. A deleted account is deactivated immediately and its data can be permanently erased on request.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete your data by writing to folio@armeldev.xyz.
